Understanding trauma is a continuous collective process of research. The field of medicine and mental health are not far from the primitive ways we have treated humans struggling with mental health issues. In recent years there has been a huge influx of research and advocacy for more informed care around trauma. It wasn't too long ago trauma was referred to as shell shock and believed to be mostly linked to going to war. But thanks to doctors like Gabor Mate and the father of Somatic Experiencing Peter Levine we are coming to understand there is way more that has been overlooked in the field of trauma. Join me for a presentation about the history of mental health & trauma, looking at the recent bodies of research through a Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy lens.
